"Selfies in Japan":

Review from Lens Culture November 2016:

Hello Ellen, thank you for sending in your work to Lensculture.

I like the subject of your series. lt's a fascinating new trend, people photographing themselves. A trend not just in Asia but worldwide.
Focusing only on this specific subject makes the whole series fun to look at and one also starts to question their own habits as a "selfie maker': But the people you photographed look like they are really having fun and that's what it is all about.
Technically your images are good. You have a good eye for composition and framing. I like your use of black and white for this subject. I cannot tell from the computer screen whether your images are analogue or digitally manipulated, but I hope the first since that would give this series an extra layer.
I think it is fascinating how all your images show different ways of making (group)selfies and even one person using the camera on them self to check her make-up. You are able to capture the right moment to tell interesting visual stories.
My favorite is image 3, this whole group trying to get into one image, but there is this lonely guy searching for the right angle. Is the group in his way or is he trying to make a selfie with the selfiemaking group?
